The Ghana School on Internet Governance (GhanaSIG) is an annual 3 days event convened by the E-Governance and Internet Governance Foundation for Africa (EGIGFA). GhanaSIG is a recognized registered member of the Dynamic Coalition on Internet Governance Schools , a worldwide body sharing best practices on schools on Internet Governance.
The aim of the Ghana School on Internet Governance is to create an avenue for people from diverse sectors and backgrounds to acquire the requisite skills in order to participate meaningfully to Internet Governance discourse at the local, national, regional and the international levels. In effect, the programme will unearth and raise new global Internet leaders. The programme specifically examines global Internet Governance issues by taking into consideration its bearing on local and regional contexts in Ghana and Africa. Whilst the programme targets people from Ghana, we welcome people from other countries to bring in different perspectives to deepen the learning experience.
Our resource persons form a faculty of Ghanaian and international experts with deep knowledge in topical Internet Governance issues and with several years of experience within the Internet Governance ecosystem. The school follows a cutting edge curriculum that adopts a practical hands-on approach to learning, including roleplays. The school also includes an ongoing fellows mentorship programme to ensure that students immerse themselves easily into real world Internet Governance engagements.
Fellows will be selected from a wide range of people and organisations to allow for participation from diverse groups of people. Some targeted audience are members from the governmental agencies, ISPs, Internet registries and registrars, the civil societies, NGOs, academia, professional bodies like the Medical and Dental Council, Ghana Journalist Association, Ghana Bar Association among others.
Increase the number of representatives of Ghanaians and other countries in the international Internet Governance debate spaces and ecosystem.
Equip our fellows with the needed skills to increase their participation in the technological, legal and policy dimensions to internet governance.
Create awareness and motivate leaders of opinion to become active participants in Internet Governance meetings and activities, where the future of the Internet is shaped.
Give our fellows the needed knowledge to become the future leaders on Internet Governance in their countries and regions.
Make our fellows a change agent in their various firms.
The aim of the Ghana School on Internet Governance is to give Ghanaians and stakeholder groups the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge, confidence and skills to participate in Internet Governance processes at the national, regional and global levels.
